Another school year is here! Each year brings a new group of students with new challenges. I have a great class and I’m looking forward to this year. We’ve spent the first two weeks learning the procedures and expectations of the classroom. Now we are beginning to understand what is expected to be successful and we are working to be consistent in our efforts to succeed.
This year we will learn how to write well constructed multi-paragraph essays. We will learn how to research information about specific topics and then how to organize that information into a well organized presentation using Blogs, Glogs, videos, PowerPoint, Prezi, and whatever else we can think of that would be interesting.
Math will be a new challenge. We will sharpen our multiplication and division skills. We will begin to learn about positive and negative numbers. Fractions will be a major part of our learning and just about the time you’ve got that under control we will learn how to use decimals and percents as well.
Cells, plant systems, human systems are all important in our science studies. The water cycle, weather systems, and the solar system should be interesting as well. If that that’s not enough, we’ll add characteristics of matter, chemical compounds, and atoms. It’ll be a challenge, for sure, but you’ll be a much better scientist when it’s over.
The history of our country is another important part of our studies this year. We will learn about the first people to live on this land and their environment affected the way they lived. We will examine European exploration that led to the development of our land, and then we will discover what led to beginnings of our country and how it changed the world.
This will be a year full of new discoveries. I hope you’re ready!!
Well class, here we are again at RBG. It’s a new school year with new faces and new expectations. I hope all of you are excited about what is in store. You will learn many new things.
Math will be more than the basics. You will learn to work with fractions, percents, and decimals.
You will develop your reading and writing skills.
Science will expose you to systems of living things, weather, water, basic chemistry, and the solar system.
Social Studies will help you to understand what led to the exploration of North America and how our country came to be.
In addition, you will learn how to use technology to increase your learning and to present what you have learned. PowerPoint, iMovie, Garageband, Blogs, Glogs, Prezi’s, and more.
Wow!! What a busy year it’s going to be. I hope your ready…
This school year has been a great year!! Hopefully all of you will have great memories of fifth grade at RBG. Check out this class Glog for a few memories.
Spring break was a great opportunity to get a little break from school. I spent the week with a group of students and their parent in Washington D.C. Here is a short video created quickly and easily using animoto, an online video creation tool.
